Dog Control Orders consultation results from October 2010.

We had over 270 replies from local residents and businesses. There was overwhelming support from those who responded.


What you said - responses to the five Orders


1. Require the person in charge of a dog to clear up dog faeces
There was overwhelming support for this proposal with nearly all respondents in favour of this Order.

2. Require dogs to be on a lead at all times on highways, footpaths, verges and specific parks and open spaces. Full list is available here (pdf)
This Order was supported by 85% of respondents. A high volume of objections were received for Barking Road Recreational Ground to be covered by this Order. As a result, this land is exempt from this Order only.

3. Require that dogs are put on a lead if directed to by an authorised officer
There were a high proportion of respondents who agreed with this Order.

4. Restrict the number of dogs a person may take onto land to four
63% of respondents wanted to restrict the number of dogs a person can take onto land to 4 dogs or less.

5. Specific dog exclusion zones. Full list is available here (pdf)
- An overwhelming 94% of all respondents were in favour of banning dogs from enclosed children's' play areas.
- 69% were for dog exclusion zones in enclosed garden areas
- 77% supported exclusion areas in Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs) such as tennis courts, bowling greens, cricket nets.
- 62% were in favour of no-dog zones within conservation areas in parks
- 56% supported banning dogs from cemeteries and churchyards
