Dog Control
Orders
The council has introduced five
Dog Control Orders to tackle irresponsible dog owners and nuisance
dog behaviour.
There are a total of five Dog Control Orders authorised
officers can enforce within specific public places in the London
Borough of Newham:
- Restrict the number of dogs a person may
take onto land to four
- Require the person in charge of a dog to clear up
dog fouling
- Require dogs to be on a lead on all highways,
footpaths, verges and alleyways
- Require dogs to be on a lead when directed by an
authorised officer
- Exclusion of dogs from specific public
areas
1. Restrict the number of dogs a person may take onto
land to four
Where does this apply? This Order will
apply to all land, which is open to the air and to which the public
are entitled or permitted to have access (with or without payment)
within Newham.
2. Require the person in charge of a dog to clear up dog
fouling
Where does this apply? This Order will apply to all land, which is
open to the air and to which the public are entitled or permitted
to have access (with or without payment) within Newham.
3. Require dogs to be on a lead on all highways,
footpaths, verges and alleyways.
Where does this apply? This Order will apply to all highways,
including roads, footways, footpaths, alleyways and grass verges
within Newham. Barking Road Recreation Ground is exempt from this
Order.

*Please note that Barking Road Recreational Ground is only exempt
from this Order. All the other applicable Orders will apply to this
piece of land apart from dog on leads at all times.
4. Require dogs to be on a lead when directed by an
authorised officer
Where does this apply? This Order
will apply to all land, which is open to the air and to which the
public are entitled or permitted to have access (with or without
payment) within Newham.
5. Exclusion of dogs from specific public
areas
Where does this apply? This Order applies to
the following public areas:
- all children's play areas
- all sports areas, including tennis courts, crickets nets
etc
- all games areas
- all garden areas in the following parks

- Stratford Park
- West Ham Lane
- Central Park
- Bartle Avenue
- Plashet Park
- Plashet Grove
- the sunken garden at Thames Barrier Park
- the bandstand area
- the garden area in West Ham Park
- Portway
All Dog Exclusion Zones will be marked by signs.
