Developers or purchasers of property can obtain a report produced from Public Protection's Contaminated Land Geographical Information System.

This report contains a range of useful information including:

  • Full copy and summary of ground investigation reports received in the study area
  • Land declared as contaminated under Part IIa of the Environmental Protection Act
  • Premises registered under Part 1 of the Environmental Protection Act
  • Previous land use (4 epochs based on6 6" OS maps)
  • Historical maps, five epochs based on the 25" 'County Series' & 'National Grid' series
  • Landfill Data
  • Aquifer vulnerability
  • Part B processes
  • Hydro-geology
  • Boreholes & wells
  • Gas Susceptibility
  • Water source protection zones
  • Conservation sites & SSSIs
  • Risks from unexploded WW2 ordinance
  • Locations that may be effected by noise and vibration from underground railways.
  • Areas that fall within the councils air quality management area due to high levels of air pollution.
  • Radon status


Authorisation Fees for processes under Part 1 Environmental Protection Act 1990
2010/11 Charge/Fee Including VAT (18%) £ As set by ministerial circular.

  • Charge for a written report upon contaminated land for a specific site produced through the Geographical Information System: £139.00
  • Charge for a written report upon contaminated land for a specific site + 250m buffer zone: £174.00


It is free to examine files held by Public Protection that detail a specific area; however there is a fee for photocopies.

The statuatory registers held by Public Protection can be examined free of charge.
