Registering a food
business
We no longer issue food-related
licenses, but food businesses in Newham must be registered with
us.
In accordance with the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations
2006 and Regulation (EC) 852/204 Article 6. Para 2, all food
businesses must apply to the Local Authority for
registration.
If your food business operates within the London Borough of Newham,
and is subject to EC 853 legislation (eg produces meat or fish
products) then you must contact us in order to register. We will
check to make sure your business comes up to an accepted
standard.
If your premises are required to be registered, you should complete
an Application for the Registration of a Food
Business Establishment (Word doc.) and return it to the
following address:
Food Safety Unit
London Borough of Newham
Newham Dockside
1000 Dockside Road
London, E16 2QU
Tel: 020 8430 2000
There is no registration fee. A Public Register is available for
checking that your business has been registered.
Each time a new owner takes over an existing food business, that
person must complete a new registration form and register their
business with their Local Authority.
It is an offence to use unregistered premises for the purposes of a
food business. However, there are some businesses which are exempt,
see information on Regulations on Registration of Food:
Exemptions.
If your premises are exempt from registration you will also need to
notify the Local Authority giving details of the exemption. It is
the responsibility of the proprietor to make sure that the form has
been properly completed and that any changes in the registration
details are notified to the Local Authority.
