One Bin and No Side
Waste Policy
Newham Council is helping
residents reduce the amount of rubbish they produce by recycling
more and using the free waste removal services we offer.
There is so much rubbish you can recycle that from
October we want you to make the most of the recycling services
available to you so you will only need one rubbish bin.
In Newham we send 2,000 tonnes of rubbish to landfill every week.
This costs you, the taxpayer, £12 million a year. Landfilling our
rubbish is the most costly way to dispose of waste and this cost is
set to rise every year.
By reducing the amount of rubbish bins each household has and
recycling more, we can reduce this cost and spend more money on the
things that are important to you, such as keeping our streets
clean.
In the coming weeks waste education officers will be visiting
residents with more than one rubbish bin to advise them on reducing
waste and showing them how you recycling more. They will also be
removing any additional bins.
Once additional bins are removed we want households to use just one
bin and not leave any side waste. If you live in a property that
has been converted into flats, each flat will be allowed one
rubbish bin each.
How to reduce your household waste
And remember please don't dump rubbish on the street - it's an
eyesore and classed as
fly-tipping.
