Unit
Making Newham a safer place to
live, work and visit is the Community Safety Unit's chief
purpose.
What we do
-
Assist the Crime and
Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) - a statutory partnership
between the local authority, police, probation, health and fire
services

Develop strategies to tackle
crime and fear of crime and to promote community safety
locally

Implement and monitor the CDRP
three year crime and drugs strategy

Ensure that information and
consultation with residents feeds into planning cycles for the
Local Strategic Partnership, budgets and community
projects

Monitor and promote good
relations between statutory partners and the community and
voluntary sectors

Provide strategic and policy
support for the crime and Anti-Social Behavour (ASB)
service

Contribute and lead on various
corporate community safety initiatives for the
council
Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership
The Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership exists
to make Newham a safer place to live and work by reducing crime and
anti social behaviour, tackling substance misuse and addressing the
fear of crime across all sections of the community.
To achieve this we carry out:
- An audit of crime and disorder, every three years,
- Consult with local people and organisations on what they think
our priorities should be,
- Develop a three year strategy for reducing crime, the impact of
crime, anti social behaviour and drug related
activity.
The unit also works with a wide range of local community and
voluntary organisations to deliver our strategies. The ASB
coordinator liaises with various partnership groups to reduce ASB
in the borough.
