How we investigate
anti-social behaviour
Our Enforcement and Investigation
team investigates anti-social behaviour and associated crime that
impacts on Newham's residents.
We deal primarily with 'people' issues and behaviour that
alarms, harasses or distresses other people.
We focus on investigating the anti-social behaviour in question
and the underlying causes and seeking solutions to stop it.
This can include ensuring support is provided to vulnerable
residents as well as helping perperators to prevent their behaviour
becoming a problem for other people.
If necessary, we will gather evidence and take action through
the courts which could result in fines, imprisonment or eviction of
tenants if the behaviour does not stop.
Most of the work undertaken by the team requires us to work
closely with other agencies and council services such as the
Metropolitan Police, Social Landlords and Environmental Health
Officers.
Issues which the team cover include:
- Disorder and anti-social behaviour from gangs/groups of
people
-
Nuisance neighbours
- Harassment including race hate crime and homophobic
harassment
- Nuisance behaviour in public areas such as threats, graffiti,
damage to property
- Crack houses and drug-related anti-social behaviour
- Street prostitution and related anti-social behaviour
