Building materials on the street

Materials may be stored temporarily on the highway with the permission of the council. The fee for this permission is £30.00 per week or part week thereof subject to conditions.

Materials may not be placed in a designated parking space without prior written agreement of the council's Parking Control Service. To do this please contact Suspension.Dispensation@newham.gov.uk.

It is an offence to place materials on the highway without permission of the highway authority, any persons found doing so, may result in the issue of a fixed penalty fine of £150 or, in more serious cases, prosecution by way of summons to the Magistrates Court.


How to apply


To apply for permission to place materials on the highway please download an application form or contact the Network Management and Street Works Team administrator on 020 3373 1463 or via email. Alternately fax us for details on 020 8430 1041. Please allow 24 hours for processing of your application.

Applicants are advised that they should contact the Network Management administrator who will be able to notify them of any restrictions on the road network before any application and payment is made. Any payments made in error will not be refunded.


When is the storage of materials on the highway not allowed?


In some roads permission will not be granted to place materials on the highway. This will be at the discretion of the appointed officer of the council.

The roads affected will normally be those forming part of the Transport for London Route Network, the Strategic Route Network and the Borough Principal Road Network (i.e. main roads and bus routes).

Applicants are advised that further restrictions may be imposed on some roads in the run up to, and during the the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
