Litter - what we can
all do
Litter is anything that is
dropped, thrown or deposited, which defaces a public
place.
Newham Council is responsible for cleaning more than
375 km of roads and pavements. In all, councils across England
spend more than £340 million of your money a year on street
cleaning and litter picking.
You can help solve the problem by not dropping litter in the first
place - the simple message is 'bin it'. There is no need to drop
litter. If there isn't a litter bin near by, wait until you get to
the nearest one or keep your rubbish until you get home.
If a litter bin is overflowing, or to report any any other problems
or queries about litter bins, please let us know by
completing our online form.
If you drop litter you could get fined. The law allows us to give
on the spot fines of £80 to anyone we see dropping litter.
