Council Tax
2013-2014
Find out how much Council Tax you
have to pay.
We are focused on helping our residents and businesses
in this difficult economic climate and, in order to help us achieve
this, we have frozen Council Tax for the fifth successive
year.
2013 will be a momentous year for Newham. Due to major budget cuts
and sweeping changes to the welfare system imposed by Central
Government, we continue to operate in a tough financial climate.
But we have taken tough decisions to ensure we can continue to
provide excellent public services in the areas that matter most to
residents.
Our 2013-2014 budget is smart, reasonable and responsible. That is
why we are able to freeze Council Tax for the fourth year in a row
and continue to have the lowest Council Tax in Outer
London.

Council Tax is the local tax that helps pay for services provided
by your council, such as housing, street lighting, cleaning,
libraries and meals on wheels and those provided by the Greater
London Authority (GLA) such as the fire brigade, the police and
other London wide organisations.
The Inland Revenue's Listing Officers have valued your home on the
basis of open market values on 1 April 1991. There are eight
valuation bands and your home will fall into one of them.
The council has set an amount for band D and you will pay a
percentage of this depending on which band your property is
in.
