Training and qualifications in Early Years, Childcare and Playwork

break

Improving quality: training and qualifications in Early Years, Childcare and Playwork Under the Every Child Matters framework, the aim is to enable every child and young person to:

  • Be Healthy
  • Stay Safe
  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Make a positive Contribution and
  • Achieve Economic well-being.

Our twice-yearly training programme provides courses covering each of these areas, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) themes and commitments and with the values of Playwork.

We offer training courses to all volunteers and staff working within the borough with children and young people aged 0 - 19 years (20 with special educational needs). This applies only to those in Ofsted-registered provision (on the early years, compulsory or voluntary registers).

Our aim is to enable providers to meet the government's Early Years Foundation Stage learning, development and welfare requirements (for childcare) and the requirements of the government's National Play Strategy (for play services).

Our training programme allows you to work your way through both targeted, compulsory core training for all providers and endorsed short professional development courses. This means that together we can both improve the quality of childcare and play services in Newham and support local people in gaining experience, training and qualifications in working with children and young people.

A toolkit for childcare managers is included in the training programme to enable you to plan staff training and development. The format can be easily adapted to record training undertaken by a registered childminder. (The toolkit also includes a Nominated Practitioner form so you can inform us about your named Special Needs, First Aid, Safeguarding Children, Health & Safety and Food Hygiene staff members).
