Libraries

  • You can find out here about the many library services available to Newham residents. These include: a library catalogue that allows you to search for and renew your library items online; the opportunity to join one of our library homework clubs or reading groups; and, if you cannot get to a library, there is our mobile library and home reader services.

  • Renew your library items online

    Access the catalogue to reserve or renew library items or check any current loans or fines. You will need to enter your library card number and PIN to access your account.

  • National Year of Reading

    2008 is the National Year of Reading and Newham's libraries will be holding a wide range of events and promotions across the borough. Join a reading group, meet an author or take part in a competition! We also have lots of fun suggestions on new ways to enjoy reading on your own or with others.

  • Borrowing Books, Movies and Music

    All of our libraries have new books every week, come and see us and check out the latest best sellers.

  • Recommended Reads

    You can always ask for advice on a good book when you visit a library, but the staff at Newham's libraries are so passionate about books they just have to share some of their favourite reads with you over the internet as well! Every week throughout the National Year of Reading we will bring you a new review of some of their favourite books.

  • Free internet access and computer training

    All of our libraries have computers you can use to access the internet or type up your CV or homework.

  • Library Services for People with Disabilities

    All of Newham's libraries have level access or a ramp from the street and there are lifts to the upper floors at Beckton, East Ham and Stratford libraries.

  • Fees and Charges

    A list of fees for books, CDs, DVDs, and more, is available below. You can renew items online or over the phone, but charges for overdue items must be paid in person at a Newham library.

  • Mobile Library

    The mobile library visits the more remote parts of Newham and some schools and residential homes.

  • Home Reader Service

    If you can't get to a library, perhaps because you are elderly or disabled, you can join our Home Reader Service.

  • Multicultural Library Services

    Libraries in Newham stock a large range of non-English books, DVDs, CDs, newspapers, magazines and dual language books in a number of community languages.

  • Reading Groups

    We offer a wide variety of reading groups at our libraries, with groups aimed at all ages and in a number of community languages. They are all free of charge and are a great place to meet new people!

  • Newspapers and Magazines

    Our libraries stock the latest issues of a wide range of popular magazines and newspapers.

  • Orange recycling bags, books and lots more at your library

    A long established service is joining forces with one of our newer services to benefit residents.
