Celebrate in style this festive season

Christmas activities taking place in Newham.

Everyone is invited to attend a host of fun and free Christmas activities taking place this year across Newham - guaranteed to add more sparkle to your holiday season.

Lively activities taking place include children’s entertainment, carol singing, delicious food and Christmas tree live switch-on events taking place across Newham in high streets, libraries, community centres and churches.

Residents and visitors can join the Deputy Mayor, Charlene McLean on Thursday 28 November for the Stratford switch-on of the 20ft Christmas tree in the Winter Wonderland in Theatre Square taking place at 5pm. Also in Stratford, you can see the switch-on of the Christmas highway lights for the Broadway, Grove and High Street at dusk.

There’s plenty for kids to enjoy and take part in, including the children’s grotto, stilt walkers, jugglers and crafting activities and a choir concert from local primary schools in Stratford Library, taking place between 5pm and 5.30pm.

St John’s Choir will be singing Christmas Carols and bringing the community together in Stratford Shopping Centre on 7 December from 2pm to 3pm.

The event is organised by Newham Council working with Stratford Original BID, the Business Improvement District for Stratford town centre.

Mohamed Hammoudan, Assistant Director of Resident, Engagement and Participation said:

“Everyone is welcome to attend our festive entertainment, there’s so much to take part in and enjoy this time of the year, with your families and friends. So come along and experience it for yourself.”

The celebrations started last Saturday with the Christmas tree switch-on at East Ham library. The switch-on for Beckton Globe and Canning Town libraries have also already taken place.

Christmas celebrations are also planned at Woodgrange Market in Forest Gate, North Woolwich, Custom House and Plaistow Libraries, and Queens Market in Green Street.
