Newham Council warns residents of fake emails seeking their banking details

30 October 2015 in Community safety and Finance
Newham Council is warning residents to be on their guard against fake emails that appear to be sent from the council asking people to update their bank account details.
The council has been made aware of a number of residents receiving emails claiming to have been sent from the council requesting people click a link to update their details.

Newham Council only sends requests to people to update their information if they have been contacted by the resident personally. It does not send emails asking you to confirm your account details or bank details.

Anyone receiving an email from Newham Council requesting this information that they were not expecting should not download any attachments or click on any links in the email.
If anyone is unsure if the email they have received is genuine they can contact the council by calling 020 8430 2000 to check.
