A special celebration of the contribution women across Newham have made to society has been organised by Newham Council to mark International Women’s Day next month.
The event, entitled ‘A Celebration of Women in Newham’ is being held at Newham College East Ham Campus between 9.30am and 1.30pm on Wednesday 8 March. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Be Bold For Change’.

Those attending the event will hear from key note speakers including Newham College Principal, Di Gowland.

Led by Newham Council’s Cabinet Member for Domestic Violence Councillor Lakmini Shah, the event will also include poetry readings, a range of singing and dancing performances and a keep fit session.

Council services, including its successful job brokerage service Workplace and debt and money advice service Moneyworks, along with other organisations will also be available for people to get more information about the support they provide.

Spaces for the event are limited to 400 and people wanting to attend are requested to book a place by emailing noreen.mukalazi@newham.gov.uk to avoid disappointment.

Councillor Shah said: “Newham is committed to challenging bias and inequality against women. It is only right we celebrate the vital role women have played in shaping our society.

“This borough has a proud history of talented women who through their passion and actions have made a difference across many walks of life.
