TFL apprenticeship opportunities for Newham residents now available with workplace

23 February 2017 in Business and Education

More than 300 people interested in getting their career on the right track attended a joint event between Newham Council’s Workplace and Transport for London (TfL) promoting apprenticeship opportunities.

Tfl’s Director of Asset Management for Surface Transport Dana Skelley OBE opened the event along with Councillor Terry Paul.

The event, which took place at Workplace Westfield, offered further information about TfL apprenticeships including in Project Management, Transport Planning, Quantity Surveying and Infrastructure Management. It was the first event of its kind TfL have held in Newham and was open to all residents.

Workplace is Newham Council’s successful job brokerage service, which has helped fill 32,000 jobs with Newham residents , and now has an office based at Westfield Stratford City. Recruitment teams from both Workplace and TfL were available at the event and hosted job application support sessions and registered interest from attendees.

As part of the scheme there are a number of apprenticeships available across different areas including Project Management, Transport Planning, Quantity Surveying and Infrastructure Management with qualifications ranging from level 2 to level 6 with a starting salary from £17K per annum as a minimum, which can rise depending on performance. Minimum age is 16 years old with no upper age limit.

Dana Skelley said: “It was great to see so many people from Newham at the event being inspired to join the transport industry. Our apprenticeships offer a great pathway for those who want to try something different and rewarding.”

Councillor Terry Paul said: “This was an excellent event and it was great to see so many people wanting to find out more about the different apprenticeships on offer.

“This is an example of how the regeneration in the borough is creating opportunities for Newham residents. With the arrival of TfL at International Quarter London, Workplace will continue to work closely with TfL and other organisations moving into the borough to ensure that Newham residents benefit.”
