Newham City Farm

Newham City Farm is one of London's largest and longest established city farms.

About the farm

The farm opened in 1977 and is home to a large collection of farmyard favourites such as cows, horses and sheep - alongside some less familiar animals such as alpacas, birds of prey and turkeys. There are also many smaller animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets.

The farm is all about providing the local community with access to animals in a countryside oasis that provides a unique learning experience. It is suitable for all ages but especially young children.

This is why we are so popular with local schools who can arrange guided tours with a member of the farm staff. Throughout the year there are exciting activities on the farm for children to take part in and there are regular workshops and clubs that they can join.

By becoming a Farm Volunteer they can also help us to look after the animals and become part of the team! The Farm is the prefect venue for a birthday party as well!

The farm's Care Farming provides a therapeutic programme of support that uses animal care and gardening to benefit adults with a variety of learning needs, health conditions, and disabilities.

Visiting the farm

Newham City Farm is open all year round, every day except Mondays.

It is free to visit although we do encourage a minimum donation of £1 per child and £2 per adult. All schools, community groups and any organised visit must prebook and are chargeable. See Education on the Farm for booking details.

The farm is open on bank holidays and runs special events throughout the year.

There is a lot to see at the farm. Alongside our animals there is a children’s play area, spaces available for children's birthday party hire, wildlife area, orchard and bird hide, and goat milking demonstrations (seasonal/afternoons).

In the holidays we usually run family meet-and-greet sessions with staff to get closer to the animals and to ask any questions.

The Farm cafe is usually open from 11am to 3pm but contact the farm via our bookings information if making a special trip.

Plan your visit to Newham City Farm to make sure you don’t miss a thing when you get here.

Activities on the farm

There is always a lot going on at the farm and there are many ways for you to get involved.

All volunteers can help out on the site and at our events both on and off the farm.

We hold very popular clubs usually at weekends where young people can find out about day-to-day life on the farm and learn some new skills and get some practical experience of farm life!

Support the farm

There are many ways to support the work that the farm does in the local community so that we can continually improve the facilities for the animals and our visitors.

Find out how you can make a valuable contribution to the farm by becoming a Friend of Newham City Farm, by sponsoring an animal or perhaps by organising a volunteering day on the farm with your work colleagues.

Education on the farm

The farm works closely with local schools to help children to learn about all aspects of animal care, agriculture and wildlife.

There is a range of visit options from guided tours to workshops which give children hands-on experience of every aspect of farm life in a practical and fun setting. The farm is a fantastic venue for Outdoor Learning.

Schools and community groups are always welcome to visit the farm - for which we will charge a minimal amount. Please note scale of charges when booking a group visit.
