About the Youth Employment Scheme

Our Youth Employment Scheme provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and increase your chance of gaining permanent employment with us.

We give our apprentices:

  • a two year, full time (36 hours per week) contract at Newham Council
  • a training allowance starting at £180 per week
  • a chance to add to your existing skills through on-the-job training
  • invaluable work experience and an opportunity to gain a qualification
  • support and advice from the Newham YES co-ordinator, their manager and assessor.

What you can train in

We offer opportunities to train in:

  • business administration
  • information technology
  • accountancy apprenticeship leading to AAT qualification
  • facilities management
  • warehousing
  • vehicle maintenance
  • surveying
  • the Integrated Youth Service.

We usually recruit twice a year. See our current apprenticeship opportunities.

Qualifications

As an apprentice you will attend college one day a month to gain NVQ qualification. You will start with NVQ level 2 and progress onto NVQ level 3. An apprenticeship will lead to a qualification which is recognised globally.

What happens after your training has ended

Over 85% of our apprentices go on to find permanent work in the council after their two contract has finished. In most cases their salary nearly doubles.

Once you secure a permanent job, you can progress in your role through on-the-job training, courses and ongoing support from your team and line manager.

Current apprenticeships

There are currently no YES opportunities.
