Community assemblies

Join us at your local Community Assembly to identify and discuss how best to address challenges in your area. The assemblies give you and your neighbours direct influence to create a shared vision for the place where you live, work or learn and to help shape its development and growth. This will be your chance to set priorities, establish community projects for your neighbourhood, influence decision making, and have a greater say in how local funding is spent.

How they work

The borough of Newham has eight Community Neighbourhoods and each neighbourhood has been allocated £100,000 funding to spend on improving the area. Each of the Community Neighbourhoods covers two or three local wards. The assemblies will deal with making improvements to that whole area rather than one particular street or ward. Anyone who lives, works or learns in the Community Neighbourhood can take part. You can find out more about the projects chosen to receive funding in this cycle of assemblies by visiting the Newham Cocreate Platform.

You can watch our story so far on YouTube.

Applications are open now for community project ideas

Last year, residents voted for the top three priority areas they wanted to address in their local neighbourhood. Now a new cycle has started and there is £100,000 available in each Community Neighbourhood to fund community projects which meet these local priorities. If you have a great idea for a community project,  you can apply now for funding to bring your project to life. Residents can apply for up to £5000 and Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector organisations can apply for up to £20,000. You can find out what the local priorities are for your area, find guidance on how to apply, and download an application form by visiting your local Community Assembly page on the Newham Co-create platform. Applications are open until Monday 6 June.
