Physical and Mental Wellbeing
The Coronavirus pandemic has brought with it some unsettling changes in our way of life. During this time it is more important than ever to look after our mental health.
We have made a factsheet (PDF) to help you and your loved ones to remain well and to help prevent feelings of isolation.
If you have recently suffered a bereavement this Bereavement and support information guide (PDF) will provide some advice.
If you’re a smoker and worried about COVID-19, there is no better time to think about quitting for good. Research from previous coronaviruses shows that smoking can make the impact of coronavirus much worse. Smokers are more likely to develop severe disease from the COVID-19 virus, than non-smokers. Read more about the benefits of quitting smoking and the support available to do so.
Last year only half of all eligible residents got their flu jab in Newham. If you're at increased risk from coronavirus, you are also more at risk of problems from flu. Research shows that if you get both viruses at the same time, you are more likely to be seriously ill. Find out more about the flu vaccine and if you are eligible.
Coping with financial stress
Financial hardship can cause stress and other health concerns. These are challenging times and Newham Council is working very hard to help residents who may be struggling financially as a result of Covid-19.
If you have been told to isolate by NHS Test & Trace and are in receipt of benefits you may be eligible for the Isolation Support Payment. If you’re not eligible for this support you can contact the Newham COVID-19 Helpline for guidance on possible financial support available. The Newham COVID-19 Helpline can be reached at 0207 473 9711 or [email protected] (Open 9am-7pm, 7 days a week).
Contact us early if you think you might need help. We want to help support you in these difficult times.
