Coronavirus updates for births, marriages and deaths

Birth and marriage registration

Birth registrations

We have started birth registrations once again, but there is a backlog of registrations still to be completed and we are currently contacting all new parents.

We are doing so in the order of date of birth of your child until we have cleared the backlog. If we have contacted you already, we ask that one parent only attend East Ham Town Hall, unless parents are unmarried and in such cases both must attend so that both can be placed on the birth certificate.

The appointment booking system on our website is temporarily suspended until the backlog of registrations is cleared. Once that has been done, we will reopen the online system to enable all new registrations to be done by appointment, which will need to be booked through Births, deaths and marriages web page

Some residents have been attending the Town Hall without an appointment. We ask that you or only attend if we have contacted you to do so.

We also ask that you attend your appointment time punctually and that only essential family members attend as we do not want to cause offence by having to turn others away. Bring your own pen if you can to complete any paperwork. Social distancing guidelines are still in place.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will register births as quickly as possible.

Marriage registrations

All ceremonies (marriage, civil partnerships and citizenships) are cancelled. We will make contact with couples to offer a refund or to rebook their ceremony. We are not taking any bookings for wedding/civil partnership ceremonies or for citizenship ceremonies. If you have an urgent query you can contact: [email protected]  – please note we are giving priority to death registration appointments.
