Coronavirus support for vulnerable and high risk people

The Newham Food Alliance

Assistance with online shopping

If you are new to online shopping and need assistance setting up an account or placing an order please contact the COVID-19 Helpline.

If you are struggling to get a delivery slot for your online grocery order Newham Council can access priority delivery slots for residents who are not shielding.

This programme provides delivery slots at Tesco and Iceland. It is for those who have not been able to access supermarket grocery delivery slots, and do not have friends or family who can pick up groceries for them.

To access these slots please contact the Newham COVID-19 Helpline at 020 7473 9711 or [email protected] (open 9am-7pm, 7 days a week). Depending on which option you choose you will either be provided with a code or receive an email from the supermarket with a reference number and instructions.

Once we have registered you with the programme, you will be able to order your groceries online yourself.

If you are unable to collect groceries from a nearby shop and would like a volunteer to help you please contact the NHS volunteers (0808 196 3646) to make arrangements.

I am isolating because I have COVID-19 or told to isolate by Test & Trace

If you are isolating due to COVID-19 symptoms, or have been told to by NHS Test and Trace, you will need to stay home and not leave the house for 10 days.

During this period, you should order groceries and food to be delivered, or have friends and family bring you food. Anyone delivering food to you should leave it outside your door and stand more than 2 metres away from the door or leave before you open the door.

If you are unable to access food through delivery, friends, or family during your period of isolation you can request a food parcel for two weeks by completing the Newham Food Alliance form.

It is a legal requirement to stay home and isolate. If you are found to be breaking the isolation period you can be fined between £1,000 and £10,000.

If you need advice or support to isolate please contact the Newham COVID-19 Helpline at 0207 473 9711 or [email protected] (open 9am-7pm, 7 days a week).

If you have been told to isolate by NHS Test and Trace and you receive benefits you may be eligible for a £500 isolation grant.
