Covid-19 vaccination

Information for Health and Social Care Staff

This page provides detail on COVID-19 vaccinations for frontline health and social care workers in Newham, including those employed by Newham Council and workers in provider and partner organisations. For information on the broader vaccination programme for the general public, please see How to get your Covid-19 vaccine.

Why were key frontline health and social care workers prioritised?

The main reason why health and social care staff were being vaccinated first is to protect the vulnerable people they come into contact with.

Is vaccination required for frontline health and social care workers?

On the 1 March 2022 the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care made a statement that the requirement for health and care staff to be vaccinated would be paused from 1 April 2022.

Even though there is no requirement to be vaccinated, it is strongly encouraged by the NHS, especially for those who have direct, face to face contact with patients and service users.
