BCG vaccine for babies
What is the BCG vaccine, who should have it and when?
The BCG vaccine protects against tuberculosis, which is also known as TB. In Newham, the BCG vaccine is given to all babies and it will usually be offered when the baby is about 28 days old.
TB is a serious infection that affects the lungs and sometimes other parts of the body, such as the brain, bones, joints and kidneys. Find out more about TB.
Where can I get the BCG vaccine?
In Newham, the BCG vaccine is provided by Vaccination UK. They will send you a letter asking you to book an appointment for your baby. If you do not receive a letter within 28 days of your child’s birth, it is important that you contact Vaccination UK to book an appointment. Vaccination UK runs BCG clinics in a number of places across the borough, including:

Dates and times of clinics change every month and Vaccination UK will provide you with more information when you contact them to book an appointment.
Make sure you take your child’s personal health record (Red Book) to the appointment and if you have any further questions, contact your midwife or Health Visitor.
