Newham development awarded British Architecture RIBA Prize for affordable housing

The Royal Institute for British Architecture (RIBA) has recognised the community impact and creativity of Newham’s McGrath Road with its Neave Brown Award.

Recognising the development as the best new affordable housing project in the UK, the RIBA praised McGrath Road for its “sheer inventiveness’, “optimism”, and contribution to local area and communities.

Councillor Shaban Mohammed, Cabinet Lead for Housing, said:

“I’m delighted by RIBA’s decision to honour this important project not only for its architectural brilliance, but for the difference it has made to our residents’ lives.

“McGrath Road’s success is a testament to the work of our partners and colleagues in bringing the architect’s visions to life. I would also like to pay tribute to our Housing Services teams who work tirelessly to support Newham residents’ wellbeing and welfare.”
