Business parking permit

If you run a registered business from a commercial address in Newham, you may be eligible for a business parking permit. With a business parking permit, you can park in permit holders only bays and shared use bays within any of our residential parking zones.  

You can’t apply for a business parking permit if you run a business from a residential address.  

Renew or apply for a parking permit 

Before you start your application, please make sure: 

  • The vehicle for which a parking permit is being applied for must not exceed 2.3 metres in height and/or 5.3 metres in length. 
  • You have read the full permit terms and conditions (PDF) before making your application.  

Apply for a business parking permit 

Please note: our East Ham Customer Service Centre is currently unable to process any face-to-face parking applications due to Covid-19.

To apply for a business permit please email [email protected] with your name and contact telephone number along with the following documents:

  • A letter from your employer on headed paper dated within three months, which includes the vehicle registration and an explanation as to why the vehicle is needed for business purposes

Plus one of the following

  • UK vehicle registration document (V5C/logbook)
  • Lease/hire agreement

And two of the below:

  • An official lease agreement in the business name
  • Current national non-domestic rate demand
  • Bank statement dated within three months
  • Utility bill dated within three months

Once your email is received your request will be processed and you will be contacted to make a payment for your permit, which will then be sent by 1stclass post to your business address.

The vehicle for which a parking permit is being applied for must not exceed 2.3 metres in height and/or 5.3 metres in length.  

Renew a business parking permit 

It is important to make sure that you keep an eye out for when your permit is expiring. If you display an expired permit, you may be issued with a penalty charge notice.  

In the event that you have not renewed your permit on time, please park your vehicle legally whilst you are waiting for your renewed permit.

  • A letter from your employer on headed paper dated within three months, which includes the vehicle registration and an explanation as to why the vehicle is needed for business purposes

Newham Council require 10 working days to process your permit and post it out to you. However, you can renew your permit up to four weeks before its expiry date.

We will only be offering business permits for three months or for six months until January 2021, while we move to a ‘virtual’ (paperless) permit system.

Change of circumstances

If you have a permit, you must tell us if you change your vehicle or address.

You must also tell us if you no longer need your permit.
