Your bins and what goes in each one

What waste to put in what bin

We want to make it easier for you to sort your waste items into the right bins. This will make sure Newham recycles as much as possible and keeps the crews who collect and treat your waste safe.

If your home is at street level and you have a front garden, you should have two bins – one for your recycling and one for the rest of your household rubbish.

The green bins with the orange lids are for your recyclable household waste, please have a look at our what you can put in your recycling bin and what you can't put in your recycling bin pages for more information. Where there is no room outside your home for a wheelie bin, use orange sacks for your recycling.

The green or blacks bins, and black sacks are for your non-recyclable household waste only, including food waste. Where there is no room outside your home for a wheelie bin, use black sacks for household rubbish.
