Newham Governance Referendum
On Thursday 6 May 2021, Newham’s voters will decide in a referendum how the borough will be governed in the future
Prohibition on Publishing Material about the Referendum
From 9 April, the Council is prohibited by law from publishing any material which:
(a) provides general information about the referendum;
(b) deals with any of the issues raised by the question to be asked in the referendum; or
(c) puts any arguments for or against a particular answer to that question.
The Council may provide information on request and in respect of the holding of the poll. These details can be found on this webpage.

Key Deadlines for voters
- Deadline for receiving applications for registration to vote – Monday 19 April
- Deadline for new postal vote applications and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes – 5pm, Tuesday 20 April 2021
- Deadline for receiving new applications to vote by proxy – 5pm, Tuesday 27 April 2021
- Polling Day – 7am – 10pm, Thursday 6 May 2021
