How the process works
Who is responsible for requesting a BOPA?
The organisation/person responsible for putting on the performance, and for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children taking part, must apply. Any type of organisation can apply; it doesn’t matter if they are a professional company, amateur group, stage or broadcast - as long as no payment (other than expenses) is made for the child to take part.
What is the application process in Newham?
The organisation must complete the initial application online.
The application must be fully completed and submitted along with the required information at least 10 working days of the date of the performance. Failure to do so may result in the licence not being issued.
Organisations should make an application for a BOPA to the Local Authority where the performance is taking place.
If satisfactory local authority officers will send the child's parent/carer the second stage part of the application for their completion and approval. Upon receipt of approval from the parent/carer the final element of the application is sent to the child's school. If all three elements of the application meet Newham's requirements the BOPA will be issued.
All parties receive a communication with detail of the outcome of the application and next steps.
How will the child receive the BOPA?
Individual children named on the BOPA do not receive a BOPA, this is only for the organiser.
