Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places - New Ward Arrangements

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England completed an Electoral Review of the London Borough of Newham ward arrangements. There will be an increase of Wards from 20 to 24, which results in changes to the current ward boundaries and the Polling Districts within them.

Therefore, Newham is now undertaking a review of its polling districts based on the new ward boundaries.  We are also reviewing the location of polling places/stations for use at both national and local elections to mirror the changes to the ward boundaries.

Each Ward is divided into a number of polling districts and each district has a polling place, such as a school or community centre.  The polling station is the room or building within the polling place that is used during elections. All voters are allocated to a polling district and its polling place/station.

Local political parties, MPs and Councillors are being consulted and views are also invited from residents, disability groups and other stakeholders.  We welcome thoughts and views from anyone especially local electors about our proposals.

The changes to the Wards and Polling Districts will be used at the Local Council Elections on 5 May 2022 onwards.

Documents will also be available for public inspection at all libraries in the Borough and in the Election Services Office, Newham Town Hall, Barking Road, London E6 2RP by appointment.

  • The consultation period starts on Monday 19 July 2021.
  • The consultation period closes on Thursday 30 September 2021.

Details of any representations received will be made available for inspection and will be published on the website at the conclusion of the review. The Council’s Chief Executive has delegated authority to make the final decision on the Polling District Review and will take into account the consultation responses.

The Review will be implemented when the Register of Electors is next revised on 1 December 2021.
