Changes in water charges, rent, telecare and other charges from April 2021

Changes to the way Council Tenants pay their Water Charges

From the 1st April 2021, there will be an important change to the way you will be charged for water and wastewater services.

What’s going to happen?
Currently the charge for your water and wastewater is paid directly to the Council, under an arrangement with Thames Water. These charges are outlined on your rent statement.

We will stop charging you for water and wastewater services from April 2021. Instead, Thames Water will send you a separate bill and it will be your responsibility to pay them directly for these services.

Why is this happening?
The reason for this change is that Thames Water has decided to end the arrangement with the Council, which allows you to pay your water rates with your rent.

From April, all queries regarding payment of water rates will need to be directed to Thames Water directly.

Do I need to do anything now?
There’s no need for you to do anything now. Thames Water will introduce direct billing for water charges for your home from the 1 April 2021.

Before that date Thames Water will contact you and provide information on their charging arrangements for your property, and the services that they can offer you as a customer.
