Developing the data sector

We recognise that data has emerged over recent years a distinct, yet linked sector within the wider digital economy, reflecting its growing prominence internationally. Emerging findings from our research collaboration with UCL shows that data represents a high-growth sector for Newham. We want to support the sector to flourish in Newham, creating employment opportunities and supporting the local economy.

We are keen to work with investors, developers and businesses interested in growing the data sector. You may be a company that works with data, or an organisation developing emerging technology, or you may be an investor/developer looking for commercial site opportunities.

Our challenge questions

  • How can we ensure that growth in the data and digital sectors tackles inequality?

  • How do we support growth of the data and digital sectors in Newham, creating the right conditions for the data sector to flourish?

  • How can we best respond to the challenge of balancing data rights for citizens in light of the growing call for enhanced data governance by companies and organisations?

  • How can this be done in ways that enable innovation while instilling trust as citizens are increasingly using data in their daily lives?
