Explore Newham’s Summer Fun Guide! Free activities, meals, reading challenges & youth programmes for ages 4–25. Join the fun across libraries, Youth Zones & Family Hubs!
There are plenty of activities available in Newham this summer, to help your children and young people learn, meet new friends and ultimately have fun! With the summer holidays looming, it’s the perfect time to have a look through our Newham Summer Fun Guide (PDF) and see what we have in store! Young people’s ambitions and futures are central to everything we do – and we are delighted to be offering such a huge range of activities. There is something for all ages, in every part of Newham, including rowing, football, coding, gardening, arts and crafts, trips to the seaside and much more! Activities are available across all of our Youth Zones and fantastic libraries, so please check them out and spread the word among Newham residents!
We will also be working with providers and community groups to ensure there is a daily healthy free meal available to eligible children, as part of the government-funded Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF). The HAF Programme is for children and young people, from Reception to Year 11 who have access to benefit related Free School Meals (FSM). Sessions can be booked here. If you work with families who may benefit, please encourage them to take a look.
Our library team will also be running the Summer Reading Challenge again this year. Created by the Reading Agency, this helpful push helps ensure children are ready for a great start to the new term in the Autumn. Those aged 4-11 can simply set a reading goal and collect rewards for reading anything they enjoy. This year’s theme is the story garden, where imagination blossoms and stories grow! Children can sign up for free at their local library. You can find more information here.
Older children and young people can also benefit from having some extra time on their hands this Summer. Our Youth Empowerment Service has a universal summer programme open to all children and young people aged 10-25. The Youth Empowerment Service has dedicated youth workers who support young people to access a safe and high quality summer programme full of fun and exciting activities as well as information, support and guidance. There are also plenty of free activities available at our Youth Zones over the summer break.
Our Newham Summer Fun Guide also provides information about our Family Hubs. The hubs offer the right support at the right time, from infant feeding to early learning, and community outreach. Please do take a moment to read the Family Hub Report (PDF) to find out more about the services available in our borough, the programme’s impact, and what is next for our Family Hubs – and help us spread the word in the community!
Our borough has a young, diverse and growing population. Our intention is for Newham to be the best place for children and young people - and to have access to the best start in life. We will continue to support, guide and empower the next generation.
