Mayor and Cabinet to consider a proposed Council Tax increase

At a meeting to be held by Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz and her Cabinet next week (Monday 15 October) she and her members will be considering items.

The items being discussed are:
  • The mid-year review of the 2018/19 budget where Cabinet will discuss a proposed a two per cent raise to Council Tax for the following year. They will also consider a three per cent Adult Social Care Precept.  The changes to taxation could bring in an extra £3.75m for the council to help pay for services such as children and young peoples services, and highways maintenance.
  • The treasury management 2017/18 year end report in which Newham Council’s capital finances were £2.6m under budget in spite of continued economic uncertainty.
  • A review of Red Door Ventures.
  • Encouraging schools to hold a ballot of all parents and a separate ballot of all their staff as part of a meaningful consultation process on whether or not to become an academy.
Cabinet will also make decisions on:
  • An action plan for the borough after noting the Childcare Sufficiency Assessment 2018
  • Plans for an expansion of Forest Gate Community School from seven-form to nine-form entry
  • Proposals to give the council the power to take enforcement action against an owner or keeper that has not microchipped their dog.
