Severe Weather Emergency Protocol launched for first time this year

The London-wide Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) was triggered on January 3 2019.

The SWEP is activated by the GLA when the temperatures are forecast to drop to zero degrees or below in any part of the capital. At this point the protocol is put into operation at borough and Pan-London level.

SWEP is designed to target the most vulnerable individuals who are sleeping rough and is accessible to people who would otherwise be excluded from services.

Once SWEP is triggered it remains in place for four nights, so the SWEP will remain in operation until Monday 7 January.

For more information about how to report any concerns about rough sleepers please see our cold weather page.
