Connaught Bridge Closure from Monday 1 October for 3 week The Connaught Bridge by London City Airport has closed to vehicle traffic from today for the next three weeks. This is to allow maintenance work to the bridge. The pedestrian walkway beneath the road bridge remains open. While refurbishment work goes on traffic is being diverted via Gallions Roundabout, Woolwich Manor Way, Albert Road, and Connaught Road. Please allow extra time for any journeys in the area.

Dropped kerbs

A dropped kerb (sometimes known as a vehicle crossover) lets you drive on to your property from the road. We do not allow dropped kerbs to be built for individual residential properties in Newham.

Why we do not allow new dropped kerbs

We do not allow dropped kerbs to be built because:
  • removing gardens to create parking spaces is bad for the appearance of the street
  • they can cause problems for pedestrians
  • if the garden is small some vehicles may be partly parked on the pavement
  • they reduce the amount of street parking.
Note, planning permission to pave over your front garden for vehicles only covers your private land. It does not give you permission to build a dropped kerb.
