Language and cultural support

We offer free ESOL, English and maths courses for everyone, at a variety of times throughout the day. Courses are normally 12 weeks long.

English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)

We offer a range of classes that can help you to learn or improve your spoken English language.

Classes are available for complete beginners who need help getting started in reading and writing, through to classes for confident speakers. All our courses include citizenship and employability.

To enrol on a basic skills course you will first need to be assessed. We will then offer you a place on the course that is right for you. The teacher will discuss and plan with you what skills you would like to work on.

Speaking and listening exams are available at all levels starting at entry 1 ESOL and speaking, listening, reading and writing exams for both level 1 and level 2 ESOL.

If you would like to improve your spoken English language and learn another skill we also offer ESOL with IT, ESOL for dressmaking, ESOL for employability and ESOL for childcare.

For information about ESOL contact us on 020 3373 0755 or find an ESOL class in Newham.

Basic skills

If you need to learn to brush up your basic skills such as reading, writing or maths, then these are the courses for you.

To help you get a job, we offer basic learning units in English and maths and you can progress on to functional skills.

If you have ever wanted to write a poem, play, novel or short story, or wanted help to develop your everyday skills, we also have fun, relaxed courses such as 'writing for fun' and 'reading for pleasure'.

For those with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, we can offer additional support.
