Citizenship ceremony

Book a citizenship ceremony

The Home Office decided in 2003 that all new British citizens over the age of 18 should participate in a ceremony to welcome them to Britain and into their local community, rather than just signing a document with a solicitor.

When you receive your invitation letter from the Home Office you will need to book your ceremony and complete it within three months of receiving your invitation letter.

If you are over 18 you must attend the ceremony. Children under 18 do not have to attend the ceremony as the parents can collect their certificates on their behalf. However they must be noted in the attendees list below.

You will need to make sure you book your citizenship ceremony before the invitation expires. If an invitation has expired (or will expire before you or a member of your group can attend a ceremony), then you will need to contact the Home Office.
