Newham’s Detached Youth Work Team is based primarily in Stratford and provides youth work support to young people in their own environments and on their terms. The team works across streets, parks, sports pitches, shopping areas, malls and cafés, engaging with young people where they feel most comfortable.
The nature of detached youth work means the team supports some of Newham’s most vulnerable young people, including those who may not be accessing other London Borough of Newham (LBN) services. The service offers open access, relationship-based support focused on safeguarding, wellbeing, positive activities and connecting young people with wider opportunities and services across the borough.
The Detached Youth Work Team currently delivers sessions in Stratford and Green Street from Monday to Saturday, including after-school, early evening and late evening sessions across both areas.
The team also leads and coordinates the Newham Detached Network, working alongside VCSO partners delivering detached youth work in Newham, including REIN, AAA and XLP.
