Specialist Fostering Scheme
Newham Councils Specialist Foster Carer Scheme is to welcome new carers and expand the fostering community in Newham. We welcome individuals or couples who are interested in looking after a child with additional needs including global delay and at risk of exploitation.
Many children are either at the start of their care experience or stepping down from residential care, where they have made significant progress.
We believe they’re ready for the next step: a stable, nurturing foster home.
Who can be a specialist foster carer?
We are looking for individuals or couples who have experience in:
- Childcare
- Education
- Health care or
- Personal experience of caring for a child with additional needs.
Support and Training for Specialist Carers
Support for Specialist Foster Carers includes:
- £866.53 weekly fee for the carer
- Separate child allowance
- 3 weeks respite annually
- Weekly social work visits
- Access to Newham’s in-house clinical team
- Autism awareness
- De-escalation techniques
- Additional training available via
- The Foster Care Training Hub and The Fostering Network
