At the end of each financial year, we are required by the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015 to publish a Statement of Accounts setting out the financial position of the Council and the transactions that have been made during the year.
You have the right to inspect these accounts, and the associated documents, in accordance with the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014.
Normally the draft accounts would need to be published and made available for Public Inspection, for a period of 30 days, from the beginning of June each year. The accounts would then be subject to external audit and the audited accounts along with the audit opinion, once approved by the Audit Committee, would need to be published on the Council’s website by the end of September.
For the financial year 2019/20, the above regulations have been amended by The Accounts and Audit (Coronavirus) (Amendment) Regulations 2020.
The revised regulations mean the draft accounts for 2019/20 can be published on or before the beginning of September 2020 and the audited accounts will need to be published by the end of November 2020.
The Council intends to publish its draft accounts by the end of June 2020 and a further notice giving the opportunity to exercise rights to inspect the statement of accounts and accounting records under the revised regulations will be displayed in due course.
