Newham Safety Partnership

Newham Safety Strategic Plan

The Newham Safety Partnership (NSP) brings together key organisations, including the Council, Police, London Fire Brigade, Probation, Health and the Voluntary Sector to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the borough.

The NSP is developing a new Community Safety strategy and has drafted the priorities that it believes should be the focus for the next three years based on the evidence that it has available. However, the partnership does not have the complete picture of what is happening in Newham.  Many crimes go unreported and resident’s perceptions of safety may differ from official statistics. To ensure the strategy reflects real experiences, we are seeking your views on the priorities that should be the focus for the next three years.

Tell us what matters most. Complete the survey and shape local priorities.

Based on existing evidence, the following key priorities have been identified:

  • Trust, Engagement and Equity – we will work to understand the issues that matter most to the community, to build trust in services and ensure we are responsive to the diverse needs of the borough. This work will impact and support the delivery of all of the other specific priorities.
  • Neighbourhood Crime - this includes anti-social behaviour, substance misuse and acquisitive crimes such as robbery and theft.
  • Hate Crime and Extremism - most people treat each other with respect and dignity but not everyone shares those same values, perpetuating hate, terror and community tensions.
  • Modern Day Slavery and Exploitation – this includes any form of human trafficking, slavery, servitude or forced labour including criminal and sexual exploitation.
  • Reducing Reoffending – we will reduce reoffending by supporting offenders with housing, physical and mental health issues, substance misuse, education and employment.
  • Serious Violence - we will deliver a coordinated local response to identify the major causes of violence and seek to provide early interventions to help prevent the spread of violence.
  • Violence Against Women and Girls – we will work to reduce violence, misogyny, and other forms of abuse towards women and girls so that they can travel, work and go out without fear or restriction

This strategy is not final. Your views will help shape how these priorities are delivered, and if anything is missing, we will review and refine our approach.
