Across June and July there will be a series of special events honouring the Windrush Generation and the rich Caribbean heritage and culture thriving in Newham, while also commemorating the historic arrival of HMT Empire Windrush in 1948.

Experience an inspiring line-up of events, including powerful film screenings in partnership with the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival and Sweet Patootee Arts’ TURNING POINT, showcasing stories that explore Caribbean identity, culture, and resilience.

On Saturday 21 June, join us at Stratford Library for a vibrant Windrush Day celebration packed with exciting workshops and activities. Enjoy captivating Caribbean storytelling for children with author Wendy Shearer, create your own Madras headdress with Sakafet London, and dive into your roots with a genealogy masterclass led by Paul Crooks. Also, don’t miss the ‘Sunday Best’ exhibition, brought to you in partnership with Sweet Patootee Arts and Sakafet London.

The celebrations wrap up in July with a community heritage project capturing the voices of Windrush descendants for future generations.
