  • West Ham land first European silverware since the golden generation of Moore, Hurst and Peters in 1965.
  • As part of borough wide celebrations, Newham Council has been working with West Ham, Police partners and TFL to lay on an open top bus tour by the winning team tomorrow night (Thursday 8 June).
  • The route across the borough will take in the iconic the Champions statue near the site of West Ham United’s former Boleyn Ground in Upton Park.

Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE said: “What a brilliant Europa Conference League achievement for the players and David Moyes with this historic win over Fiorentina at the Eden Stadium in Prague tonight! The Hammers have done us really proud by winning their first major trophy in over 30 years since the FA Cup final. On behalf of Newham residents and everyone at the Council, massive congratulations to the Irons!

“In Newham we’ll be celebrating with joy and jubilance following tonight’s nail biting evening. Fans from across the borough and beyond are rightly in great spirits because West Ham have rounded off the season with such focus and brilliance. Hats off to Benrahma and Bowen for those phenomenal goals that nailed tonight’s win.”

“Our celebrations will continue, as I am pleased to confirm that Newham Council has been working with West Ham, our Police partners and TFL to lay on an open top bus tour by the winning team tomorrow night (Thursday 8 June). The route across the borough will take in the iconic the Champions statue near the site of West Ham United’s former Boleyn Ground in Upton Park, at the junction of Barking Road and Green Street.

“Starting off at the Champions Statute is a fitting tribute to those three remarkable West Ham players Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, who along with Ray Wilson were part of the victorious World Cup winning England team in 1966. It’s also an honour to the golden era of West Ham players who last won European silverware in the 1965 European Cup Winners’ Cup.”

Lifelong Hammers Fan, Newham’s Interim Chief Executive Colin Ansell said: “This is a fantastic night for all associated with West Ham – it’s been a long time coming!

“Newham Council is delighted that football is finally coming home with Declan Rice and the boys richly deserving of their place on the Hammers distinguished roll call of heroes. We are all so proud of their achievement and we can’t wait to welcome them home!

“And I just wanted to add my congratulations to the West Ham Under-18 team who scored a tremendous victory in the FA Youth Cup earlier this year, beating Arsenal 5-1 to cement the club’s history of nurturing and bringing through local talent – Bobby Moore would be proud. Come on you Irons!”

Further details of the exact route and timings of the Bus Tour will be published tomorrow, and will be available on the West Ham United and Newham Council websites.

Fans wishing to attend are strongly urged to use public transport as parking and traffic in the area are expected to be extremely congested.
