Newham’s mayor today welcomed news from the Chancellor that the borough will play a major role in the solution to the country’s housing crisis.
Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, Mayor of Newham, has welcomed a new Partnership of major developers Crown Estates and Lendlease.
The partnership has committed to deliver two major developments in the Borough.
Some 6,300 homes are to be built and potentially 1,000s of new jobs unleashed at Silvertown.
In further good news for the borough a further three land plots in Stratford Cross, with the potential to deliver over 1.6m sq ft of commercial space will also be developed.
Mayor Fiaz said. “Lendlease’s announcement of its new partnership with The Crown Estate is significant and a clear sign of investor confidence in our borough.
“Newham is home to two of Lendlease’s most important development sites in London - Silvertown in the Royal Docks and Stratford Cross - so it’s exciting that our borough will benefit from this powerhouse Joint Venture collaboration.
“The Silvertown development, located in our majestic Royal Docks, is already a core part of London’s new growth plan. It is set to deliver 6,300 new homes on a 60-acre site, bringing real benefits to our residents and Londoners alike.
“With high-quality commercial space, Silvertown is poised to become a vibrant and dynamic new neighbourhood in Newham, offering affordable homes, jobs, and a raft of opportunities.
“Stratford Cross has already become an impressive destination for business and commerce. Combined with the East Bank, our ambitious Stratford vision is coming to life, bolstered by investor confidence in our plans for a thriving town centre and inclusive growth.
“Together, these developments reflect the scale of ambition we have for Newham as we drive forward our Building a Fairer Newham agenda, bringing in investments and creating ever more opportunities for our residents.
“I look forward to working closely with the Lendlease and The Crown Estate teams, in collaboration with the Mayor of London and the GLA, to ensure we collectively deliver real benefits for Newham residents and all Londoners.
“At a time of increasing housing need, today’s news about the exciting collaboration between Lendlease and The Crown Estate will also support the national government’s growth ambitions for the future of our country."
