The FA’s Big Football Day is coming to Newham with fun, football and freebies to encourage women and girls to get into the beautiful game.
The FA’s Big Football Day – powered by the National Lottery – will team up with Central Park All Stars FC on 5 July to bring the grassroots football to more Newham women and girls.
After a day of training and taster sessions in Central Park, East Ham you can join together in front of a big screen to watch LIVE as the Lionesses begin their defence of the Euro Championship title against France.
Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE: “I’m so excited the FA are bringing the spirit of the Lionesses right here to the heart of Newham – opening up opportunities to women and girls in our borough to become involved in the beautiful game and the community of the football family.”
The FA has identified Newham a priority area to get more women (aged 16+) and girls (aged 5 to 15) into sport, specifically playing grassroots football as well as coaching, volunteering and refereeing opportunities.
Sue Day, director of women’s football at the FA, said: “We know the power of a major tournament to unite the nation and inspire participation. Big Football Day powered by The National Lottery will be at the heart of the FA’s plans to capture the EURO 2025 spirit at home and encourage women and girls of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to give football a go.”
With the number of girls playing football more than doubling since UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, Big Football Day powered by The National Lottery aims to build on the momentum generated by England participating in a major tournament to continue to grow the women’s and girls’ game. The events will form part of the FA’s Made for this Game campaign, which was launched to support the drive to unlock equal opportunities for all women and girls in football, whilst showing it is a sport where they belong.
