Boost for East Ham High Street

East Ham High Street

Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, has welcomed a boost for East Ham High Street with support from the Mayor of London’s £600,000 High Street Place Labs (HSPL) programme.

Newham Council is one of 12 councils to be awarded £50,000 from the programme to create plans for upgrades to high streets.

Newham will use the funding to develop plans to make the East Ham High Street more attractive and walkable, provide opportunities for young people and will build on our £60m Neighbourhood Investment programme which has been delivering across the Borough.

This strategy will support local businesses in the area, and, in line with the Council’s award winning Just Transition Plan, provide green environmental improvements that will mitigate flooding and overheating.

The Council will also develop strategies to support the night time economy in the area while reducing fear of crime.

Mayor Rokhsana said: “Our High Streets are the lifeblood of our communities, and this support from the Mayor of London fast forwards our ambitious plans to revive East Ham High Street as the vibrant, accessible, and welcoming town centre it is.

“We’re focused on creating neighbourhoods with thriving highstreets that drive economic and social benefits for our local residents, including jobs.

“It’s all part of our agenda of driving inclusive growth which is about creating opportunities for local people and great places to hang out, shop and eat.”
