We are sad to announce the death of Cllr Neil Wilson, Cabinet Member for Health and Adults Social Care, and ward member for Plaistow South.

Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE said “We are desperately sad and heartbroken to learn of this saddest of news about our dear friend and colleague. Neil was ‘Father of the Council’ and gave over 30 years’ service to the borough and the residents that he cared so much about. We are all in shock at this news and will miss him terribly. Neil’s faith was so important to him and we are comforted to know that he is with the Lord he loved. He is in our thoughts and prayers.”

Cllr Sarah Ruiz, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Children Services and Education, and Sustainable Transport said: “Neil was a very dear friend and colleague. His beliefs shaped him and his values, and his life of public service – as a teacher, and as a councillor.  Neil was loved and respected by Member colleagues across the chamber, and by all the Council officers he worked with, for his experience, dedication and commitment to the borough and people he loved – and his sense of joy and fun.”

Close friend Cllr Simon Rush said: “It is heart wrenching news that a dear friend and colleague has died.  We will dearly miss Neil as we found joy in speaking with him and the advice and mentoring he gave to members as the Father of the Council.  He was always there for sound advice or a simple chat.  He will be missed. “

On behalf of all at the Council, we send our deepest condolences to Cllr Wilson's family and friends.

A further statement and details of planned tributes by the Council will be issued shortly.
