Over 100 young people in Newham explored tech, sustainability and innovation through workshops, podcasts and panels with major partners at a vibrant International Youth Day showcase.
Ahead of A level, T Level and BTEC exam results this week, Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE joined over one hundred young people from across the borough at Forest Gate Youth Zone to mark International Youth Day 2025 on Tuesday 12 August, where a showcase event backed by partners including Microsoft and McLaren was hosted by the Council’s Our Newham Youth service.
The event was held to inspire young people into digital technology, innovation, artificial intelligence and data-driven careers, and responds to a growing trend backed by research which shows that a growing number of young people want to drive the next generation of start-ups as entrepreneurs and innovators.
Featuring interactive workshops, creative podcast sessions and engaging panel discussions, the International Youth Day event provided Newham’s young people with direct access to talent scouts and inspiring leaders from organisations including Newham College, West Ham United Foundation, University College London East, RG Group, Olli Group, Get Zero Earth, Just IT, B2W Group, and the London Learning Consortium.
Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, said: “Opportunity Newham is all about opening up our young people to new ideas and prospects so they can become the future change-makers, entrepreneurs and innovators of tomorrow.
“Events like this are vital for showing young people what’s possible, building confidence and giving them direct access to the skills and opportunities that will shape their futures. I'm so proud that Newham is leading the way in supporting and empowering our youth.”
A huge thank you goes to all the employers and partners who brought their energy, expertise and enthusiasm to the day, and to every young person who took part, asked questions and shared their dreams.
This celebration of youth empowerment, innovation and opportunity is just one part of Newham’s ongoing commitment to unlocking the potential of young people living in the borough.
