Response to the Government's Youth Strategy announcement from the Mayor of Newham.
Since 2018, we’ve been bucking the trend nationally, by reversing the disinvestment in our Youth Empowerment Service because we’ve been committed to widening opportunities for all our children and young people in Newham.
We know that young people spend a high percentage of their time outside of schools and formal learning, which is why I welcome the Government’s new Youth Matters National Youth Strategy, which puts young people and their futures at the heart of ambitious plans to rebuild youth services across the country.
We are ready to help support this national 10-year mission as locally we’ve been recognised by the National Youth Agency for having an award-winning formula with our Youth Empowerment Service.
We have driven a clear vision, which is deeply valued by our young people, to make sure our Youth Zones offer safe, trusted spaces that foster their personal development and wellbeing; and we want to ensure we can access the £500m the government has announced to sustain our work.
